Southampton have confirmed the signing of Tottenham defender Kyle Walker-Peters on loan for the rest of the season.

The Saints announced on their official website that the 22-year-old fullback joined the south coast club for the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign, with Walker-Peters becoming the first signing of the January window for Southampton with two days left for Ralph Hasenhuttl to conduct late business.

The Austrian manager confirmed via Sky Sports News at the start of the transfer window that he was interested in signing a right-back this month with Yan Valery losing out on his place in the starting XI and Cedric Soares set to leave the club at the end of this season, with the Portuguese international now looking close to a move to Arsenal this month as reported by Sky Sports News.

Will Kyle Walker-Peters be a success at Southampton?

The likes of Championship defenders Joe Bryan and Matty Cash as well as KRC Genk fullback Joakim Maehle have all been rumoured as players on Southampton’s radar, yet Walker-Peters is the player Hasenhuttl has decided to bring in to St. Mary’s this month despite The Southern Daily Echo reporting that the Saints don’t have an option to buy the Premier League youngster.

The Tottenham academy graduate has failed to make an impact under Jose Mourinho since the arrival of the Portuguese manager, with stats from Transfermarkt showing Walker-Peters only managed one appearance in all competitions since the appointment of the former Manchester United manager.

Southampton have been biding their time to sign a right-back this month, but with Walker-Peters having a good amount of Premier League experience as stats from Transfermarkt show, the Saints have secured a solid new addition to the squad for the remainder of the season.
