In case you missed it, Southampton could be locked in a transfer battle once again with Liverpool.

The Reds have taken six players off our books and have paid us approximately £167m worth of fees, which includes a whopping £75m payment for Virgil van Dijk in January 2018.

This time, Werder Bremen winger Milot Rashica is now on the radar of both clubs and this week’s edition of SportBild (via Sport Witness) revealed that both clubs will lock horns for the Kosovo international’s signature.

A buyout clause of €38m (£33.2m) is on the table until June 15th, which could be reduced again to €18m (£15.7m) if Bremen are relegated from the Bundesliga as they currently sit second-to-bottom in the standings.

This would make Rashica a bargain. For a player that is already experienced in one of Europe’s biggest leagues, there is no doubting that he would be able to step up to the standards of the Premier League.

Would Milot Rashica be a good signing for Southampton?

Just by scratching the surface, Southampton might have no chance of beating Liverpool to sign. However, there is one thing that we can offer than the Merseyside club cannot guarantee.

With Jurgen Klopp’s side having such a competitive squad as it is, it is hard to see where the Kosovan would fit in. There is no way that he would start ahead of either Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah, who are arguably two of the league’s best players. He could become another Xherdan Shaqiri at Anfield.

Whereas at St Mary’s, he will be in line for a lot more game time on the South Coast. He could really push Moussa Djenepo and Nathan Redmond to take their respective places in the squad, thanks to Rashica’s versatility.

Bremen’s prized asset can play anywhere across the frontline and has found attacking success from various positions, with 10 goals and five assists in 24 appearances this season.

As I’ve previously said, he would be a fantastic addition in our squad and would provide great strength in depth to our attacking department. Despite the fact it would be difficult to fend off Liverpool, we have this significant advantage of squad competitiveness that could tempt him to move to Southampton.
