Patience: Southampton boss is right to give time for 22G/5A ace to strike – Opinion

Che Adams might not have scored a professional goal for Southampton yet, but manager Ralph Hasenhuttl is more than confident that the former Championship star will find his goalscoring touch that made the 23-year-old striker such a prized player this summer.

Indeed, the former Birmingham City star netted 25 goals and assisted another five for the West Midlands side as numbers from Transfermarkt show, promoting the Saints to splash a reported £15m on the youngster according to BBC Sport, and although the attacker impressed in pre-season, the Premier League is proving to be a hard division to adjust to.

And Hasenhuttl has admitted to this. Speaking to iNews, the Saints boss believes that his new summer signing has found it unlucky at times playing in the English top-flight but is still convinced that Adams can become a top player in the Premier League once he finds the net.

And this is a problem that the young striker has already experience in his career. Last season with Birmingham, it took until the fifth game of the season for Adams to find his first goal of the campaign, and before his hat-trick performance against Hull City in November, the youngster only had five goals to his name in 16 league games as numbers from Transfermarkt show.

Adams’ slow burners of a season are not what you want from a striker in the English top-flight. However, it is encouraging to see Hasenhuttl remain patient over the 23-year-old as his wait for a goal continues after four Premier League games.

The striker showed last season just how potent he can be in front of goal after a big performance, and when that day comes in the Premier League, Southampton will have a lethal striker in Adams to partner alongside Danny Ings in the two-man attack.
