Manager Mauricio Pellegrino and summer signing Jan Bednarek have been speaking ahead of the Premier League opener against Swansea City.

Speaking to saintsfc as he met with the media for his first official pre game press conference at Staplewood, our new gaffer said that recent signing Mario Lemina could in fact make his debut as he’s in good physical shape following his first few days of training.

‘Physically he is good, because he has been training in Juventus, but we will decide between today and tomorrow if he will be part of the team.’

Speaking more widely Pellegrino said we had no major injury concerns ahead of the opener, but Cedric was still being monitored following his late return after an extended break and shock horror Virgil van Dijk ‘is not’ available for the game.

Jan Bednarek was also speaking ahead of the game and what he hopes will be his competitive debut and the Polish youngster was relishing the chance to impress.

‘We are all looking forward to it. I think everyone is ready to handle it and play their best. It`s very nice that we can play our first game at home because we will be able to feel the support of our fans. I feel very nice in this team. All of my team mates are very friendly and everyone in the club has been very good to me. I can`t wait for the first game.’

Having signed a five year deal and spent a month at the club, he’s enjoying working under our new gaffer.

‘As a team we have already improved with him. He is a very good guy; a very good person and coach. I think we can continue to improve and become a better team with him. That`s the point: to keep working, to listen to what he has to say to us and to be a better team and better players.’
