News has now been announced that Mauricio Pochettino has resigned from the position of manager at Southampton in order to take up the same role at Tottenham Hotspur.

So many rumours have flown around since the season ended, and as each day passed Spurs’ interest in our manager gathered pace, and the press were confirming that he was in ‘advanced’ talks with Spurs recently.

This has now come to pass, and saintsfc have released the following statement confirming his departure.

‘Southampton has today accepted the resignation of Mauricio Pochettino, and concluded negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur over his appointment as their new manager.’

The statement goes on to confirm that our backroom team of assistant manager Jesus Perez, first team coach Miguel D’Agostino and goalkeeping coach Toni Jimenez will also all now depart Southampton.

Chairman Ralph Krieger went on to say.

‘The club has been on a consistent path of growth since the arrival of Markus Liebherr in 2009. This growth took place before Mauricio game, it continued strongly under his leadership, and it will continue into the next season. The board’s job is to find opportunity in this challenge and to continue to move the Club forward.’

Krueger confirms that the club have now begun the process of searching for a ‘new high calibre manager’ and they will be seeking a manager that shares ‘our values, our principles and our philosophy’ so we can continue to grow our first team foundation and the promotion of our young talents.

Now we await the inevitable greater speculation about the future of our players, as that is certainly going to kick up a level whilst we are managerless.
