Jan Poortvliet was furious with his players following the 3-0 defeat against Watford at St Mary’s on Saturday.

The Southampton manager has laid into his players for a lack of concentration and professionalism and was more than a little disappointed with mistakes made and the two missed penalties: ‘I’m very disappointed. There were a lot of mistakes and when you go through a game with no concentration and no professionalism, it is not nice to see,’ Poortvliet told BBC Sport. ‘You should really be scoring penalties but I do not want to use that as an excuse and the players know they should have done better all around.

‘It is all about confidence and we have to pick ourselves up, learn from this and go on to the next game.’

Do you agree with Jan Poortvliet, does he have every right to be as angry as he appears?
