Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino has confirmed that talks are ongoing with Spartak Moscow over winger Quincy Promes.

With plenty of speculation linking us with the 26 year old player, Pellegrino told Sky Sports recently that the club were still ‘pushing’ to get a deal done for Promes ahead of Wednesday evening’s deadline but he did have the expectation that any deal could roll on until said deadline.

‘Quincy Promes is one of the players that we have been following for a few months. The market is too difficult, we wait until the end and keep pushing.’

It’s said Spartak are holding out for £30million to make a deal happen but Southampton, as you’d expect, are looking for a bit more value in the deal.

Sky Sports’ sources suggest that the player is very keen on making the move himself and although we completed the signing of Guido Carrillo the other day, that has certainly not dampened our spirits when it comes to Promes as Pellegrino sees value in both.

With 53 goals in 101 Russian Premier League appearances for Spartak following his arrival from FC Twente in the summer of 2014 for a reported £12million, the players’ talent can’t be questioned and you wouldn’t think he’d overly be out of place in the Premier League.

But we’ll know if he gets that chance come Wednesday won’t we.
