Refs Cost Us Matches, Who Needs Fixing?

Over the last few seasons it seems that the general standard of refereeing at times, has dropped alarmingly with errors so clear that it beggars belief that they have been made.

These errors are seen by the media that is reporting them as simply blatant human error. Could it be something far more sinister than that with an ulterior motive for the errors?

Myriads of cameras are watching, which means the errors are noted and then picked clean, by various commentators with an almost insatiable desire to expose the human frailty.

Now we have seen all of the media companies covering the startling admission that 100’s of games in Europe have been played with the results known prior to kick-off.

Match fixing, it has been reported, is seen as being a major concern with Asian cartels engaging with criminals in Europe to gain enormous amounts financially.

Millions of fans worldwide pay their hard earned money to watch their teams, hoping to see them win and become a successful trophy winning team.

How the hell would they feel if they were to learn that they had lost a qualifying game in an important European competition because the refereeing mistake was not made through simple human error?

Instead, it was a deliberate act ensuring that the right result would be met for the benefit of a few fortune seekers?

Or, that their players had been paid to score an own goal or miss simple chances for the same reason.

Europe has the highest paid footballers plying their trade and some are extremely successful. As a Saints fan I hope that in the near future I will be able to see my team competing with the best on a regular basis.

The fact that only one match has, so far, been reported as being suspected of being involved here in England does little to make me feel better.

I want my team to win by fair means not foul, and I think that almost all fans would feel the same.

The thought that a match involving my team could be won or lost after money had changed hands fills me with a sense of dread.
