As last week came to a close, and in light of all the speculation surrounding the future of Southampton Academy graduate Matt Targett, manager Ralph Hasenhuttl was claimed to have made a huge decision about the left back spot moving forward.

It Must Be Liverpool Week Again For Southampton Fans – Report Claims Klopp Has A Second Targett

The 23-year-old’s future has been in doubt for a while, going back to last season’s transfer window and so far this summer we’ve seen more links with the likes of Aston Villa, Liverpool and others (Saintsmarching.com) but according to the Daily Mail our Austrian gaffer will now make Targett his first pick for the first team, and we will look to cash in on Ryan Bertrand.

With supposed interest in the 29-year-old from sides like Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid (tbrfootball.com), whether the report is accurate is open to debate, but with a far more youthful feel to Hasenhuttl’s approach since he arrived at Staplewood, I can certainly believe he would make such a major move now as he shapes the side of his own.

Targett has plenty of development and improvement to do and Bertrand has always split fans with his performances really, so for the right price I think most would be on board with this. Given injuries took their toll recently, the fact he’s already lost the armband and with him being one of our higher earners, the only thing that leaves some scepticism here is Hasenhuttl’s choices as the season came to a close, as Bertrand was certainly more favoured.
