It’s been suggested this week that Southampton could potentially be in a three-horse race with Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers for highly rated Charlton Athletic midfielder Joe Aribo.
The 22-year-old has long been making a name for himself at The Valley, and having broken through to their senior side in the 2016/17 campaign, he now boasts 79 starting appearances with a further 16 showings from the substitutes bench. In that time he’s contributed 16 goals.
A report from Goal claimed that after a very good season in League One where Charlton are hoping to return to the Championship via the Play-Off route, he had certainly seen his stock rise and they suggest that talks have already been opened on a pre-contract with him soon to be a free agent with his existing deal expiring this summer.
The doubt is whether them securing promotion would make a difference, but if a deal hasn’t been signed yet, you would assume it won’t be.
Having moved to the club on a one year professional deal from Staines, it’s not believed even training compensation would be required here, so it could be a massive deal in our favour down the line.
