Given Southampton’s struggles in front of goal, particularly last season, fans are hoping the club allows manager Ralph Hasenhuttl to significantly strengthen at the top of the pitch ahead of the coming 2019/20 Premier League campaign and we’ve now been linked with Benfica striker Haris Seferovic.
Having already been linked with the likes of Che Adams, there was a fresh story on the rumours mill over the weekend and it suggested that Hasenhuttl was preparing to go Portuguese for a goalscoring answer – 27-year-old striker Seferovic found the back of the net 25 times in the campaign of 2018/19 according to Whoscored, helping them to a 37th Primeira Liga title.
Outlet Blick reported this weekend that the Switzerland international was gathering attention this summer from England, and it was believed that Southampton were one of those clubs taking a look at him, as was Everton.
The sticking point according to the reports is they believe it would take around a £50million offer for them to be prepared to deal, but whether that’s a genuine release clause or simply media rumour I don’t know.
With someone like Adams reportedly available for around the £20million mark, I’m not sure I can see this rumour coming to anything.
