Report Claims Southampton Target 23 y/o Championship International As January Cover

|

With Southampton gearing up for our return to Premier League action as we make the trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend following the close of the October international break, reports have surfaced claiming that we have an interest in bringing in Queens Park Rangers midfielder, Ryan Manning, during the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old Republic of Ireland international has been at Loftus Road since 2015, and to date, he’s made 50 starting appearances, with 14 showings from the bench and he’s returned four goals. He also spent the first half of the 2018/19 campaign out on loan with Rotherham United, where he added four further goals to his tally in 13 starts and five substitute showings – Soccerbase.

The report claims that Southampton will have to battle interest from West Ham United, Watford, and Newcastle United to secure the services of the Irishman, but with him into the final year of his deal (albeit QPR are said to have a 12 month option), it’s believed he’d be available for a reasonable fee.

Manning is predominantly a central midfielder, but of late QPR have turned him into a left back, so it’s not a great stretch to think, if we have an interest, it’s as Matt Targett’s replacement.
