Having seen former Southampton midfielder Steven Davis head north back to former club Rangers, it’s been reported this week that we could now make a raid on them for in form former Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield.

The 30-year-old came through Falkirk’s youth system, before spending a few years with Huddersfield Town. Having arrived at Burnley in 2013, he went on to become a bit of a legend for them with some key goals as they challenged for the Premier League, finally establishing themselves in the top flight.

Injury did blight the end of his time with them and in 2018 he made the move to Rangers and he now boasts 39 starting appearances, with three further showings from the bench. He’s also contributed eleven goals (four in the last two games) and with eight assists, his stock is on the rise and the Daily Record have now claimed that we have a ‘concrete interest’ in the Canada international ahead of next summer.

He’s undoubtedly doing well at Rangers, but with three years left on his deal and not having set the Premier League alight whilst at Burnley (maybe he just didn’t catch my attention), I can’t see there being anything in this one.

Later in the evening, the same outlet were reporting that they believed we had no interest in the player and I’m not surprised to see that clarification come in as it didn’t sound like a target we’d be chasing to help us rebuild.
