Former Southampton midfielder Jack Cork has voiced his backing for Danny Ings to be recalled into the England national team after a sensational season for the Saints.

Speaking to Four Four Two, the Burnley no. 4 revealed that there should be no reason why Ings wouldn’t be called up into next month’s England squad after firing Southampton into new heights in the Premier League this season and playing a huge roll in Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side escaping the clutches of relegation.

As stats from Transfermarkt show, Ings has been the Saints top scorer this season in all competitions with 17 goals across the board for Southampton, and this level of consistency has played a large part into many figures in football calling on Gareth Southgate to call up the 27-year-old striker, with Cork now amongst that ever-growing list of names.

Will Danny Ings be on the plane for the EUROs this summer?

Yes

No

The 30-year-old midfielder said: “Fair play to Danny, he’s been great. He’s scored a lot of goals for Southampton. You look at what he’s done for that club this season and you put a lot of it down to him. Looking at international things for him, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be included.”

A midfielder with 258 Premier League appearances as stats from Transfermarkt show, a nod of approval from Cork for Ings’ return to the England squad is another testament as to how electric the Southampton ace has been this season, and given injuries to the like of Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford, it is almost certain that Southgate will hand the former Liverpool attacker the callup he ever so deserves next month.
