Report: La Liga high-flyers considering move for Southampton outcast

|

Real Sociedad are plotting a move for Southampton loanee Mohamed Elyounoussi this summer, according to Football Insider.

The 25-year-old made the move to Celtic on loan for the 2019/20 campaign after he was not included in Ralph Hasenhuttl’s plans for this season.

Regardless of this, he has been turning a few heads north of the border. From 20 appearances for Neil Lennon’s side, he has scored seven goals and conjured up six assists, which is a solid return by any standards.

The Norway international even received praise from Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, who approached him after his former side FC Basel toppled the reigning Premier League champions back in 2018.

Taking all this into consideration, this has now attracted the interest in Real Sociedad and Football Insider revealed that Txuri-urdinak are looking to explore the options on capturing the Norweigan attacking midfielder on a permanent basis.

Should Elyounoussi be in the Saints first-team next season?

Yes, he has warranted a second chance

No, sell him on

No, sell him on

The report adds that Southampton would expect to be paid around £8-10m to secure his services in the summer. With football currently suspended and with finances expected to be affected, we may be willing to accept a cheaper deal.

It is quite alarming that we are so open just to let Elyounoussi stroll out of the door without even a second thought. Even though he only made 16 Premier League appearances for us last season, surely he deserves a second chance.

Time will tell whether we will secure him for next season. Someone that is strong at holding on to the ball and dribbling is someone we could do with. Even though Sofiane Boufal is our established left-winger, it is a possibility that he could play on the right-hand side. Hopefully, anyway.
