Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters is keen to stay on the South Coast and finish the season with us, even if it means the campaign finishing beyond June, according to reports.

According to Sky Sports, the defender is hoping that his parent club Tottenham Hotspur allows him to see out the last nine games at St Mary’s, should the 2019/20 season resume next month.

Premier League clubs voted earlier last week to allows loan contracts to bypass the original June 1st deadline by a month, with all deals now set to expire on June 30th.

The report adds that the Saints are keen to keep hold of Walker-Peters to help him develop, which would put them in a position to decide whether we would be interested in extending his stay with us on a permanent basis.

Will Kyle Walker-Peters be a success at Southampton?

No

Yes

Yes

The 23-year-old has three years left on his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Due to his lack of first-team football for the Lilywhites, it looks unlikely that he has a long-term future under Jose Mourinho in north London.

Walker-Peters has only played 73 minutes of football with Southampton after joining on loan in January but will hopefully have plenty of opportunities during the remaining amount of games to prove himself on the biggest stage.

It would be harsh if the player was sent back to Spurs because of the suspension of football. Hopefully, we can keep hold of the former England U21 international for the final nine games to give him the chance in England’s top tier that he deserves.
