The scouser is a confident lasd but to many observers he seemed to be carrying a huge weight on his shoulders as the team persistently failed to score in games.

After registering his first goals for six games the striker said that he had always been confident that the goals would come.

Talking to the ‘Saints Player’ after the game he said, ‘There was a lot of frustration let out when that penalty went in, I’ve been unlucky in the last few games, not scoring.’

This I must agree with because goalkeepers seem to have been making brilliant save after brilliant save of lat, to deny him a goal.

Rickie insisted that he wasn’t overly bothered as he knew that the goals would come. The fact that the first was from the penalty spot didn’t matter as it was still a goal.

Talking about the team he said that we had played some superb football and that he enjoyed watching some of it as moves developed.

He added that new boss Nigel Adkins has had the team/squad working very hard on the passing quickly and movement style and that for the Bournemuth game you could see it starting to pay off.

That this was probably the best performance by the team this season as he suggests is a fact that a few Saints fans have also mentioned.

He sounded a happy man as he spoke, and he admitted that the way the manager wanted them to play was starting to bear fruition.

It was a good performance we saw on Saturday and mow we know that we can play perhaps we can also now start to do so on a more consistent basis.

With the way things are starting to shape up it might not be long before we can all take our new manager to our hearts as the man who will lead us merrily upwards to the promised land.

One step at a time though, of course.
