Bristol City have extended Stern John’s loan to the end of the season. John has scored 2 goals in 12 appearances for Gary Johnson – becoming a valuable member of the Robin set-up.

The Trinidad and Tobago international had no future with the Saints, and the City boss snapped up the experience striker to help him with their promotion push.

Gary Johnson told the City official website: ‘Southampton have told him they won’t be offering him a new contract at the end of the campaign and we needed that experienced Championship goal scorer in our squad.

‘We’ll see come May how much he’s able to give us. He’s good in the dressing room and although you won’t see him rushing around on the pitch, he’s a very clever player who does a lot of work for the team.’

The 32 year old will be remembered for his two goals which saved the Saints from relegation against Sheffield United on the last of last season. He was a popular player on the pitch with the Saints fans, and a player of his quality will succeed at this level.
