Oriol Romeu has been giving his own pre Crystal Palace interviews ahead of the FA Cup third round tie this weekend, and he’s admitted it’s an important week for Southampton with the game followed by a clash against Watford in the midweek fixture.

Speaking to saintsfc Romeu said everybody in the camp was focused on firstly getting through to the fourth round draw and then getting our Premier League season back on track.

‘Three home games in a row will be very good for us – I`m sure we will have three good games and hopefully three wins. It`s going to be tough, but one game gives you the opportunity against anyone. We have proved we can win against any team in the top league, so we have to work very hard to get this win.’

Key to those three games with West Brom backing it up next weekend are the fans and the St Mary’s atmosphere, and he added.

‘They will be very important. They have been supporting us in every moment and when you`re struggling to win games that is needed. They will be very important for us. We will be all together in these three games and I hope we get what we want.’

Having faced Palace not that long ago, Romeu went on to say that for him it was a very equal game and only the fine margins decided it, so again this would be a tough match for us.

‘It was an equal game – anyone could have won that game, but they took one of the chances they had. We have to make sure we`re there to score when we create chances because in the last games that hasn`t happened. We have to learn from that, do our job and work as hard as we do every game – I`m sure we can go through.’

Talking more about the FA Cup in general, Romeu also spoke fondly of his memories at winning the competition during his first year with Chelsea and how he hoped we could go all the way this year.

‘It`s a competition that everyone loves – the fans love and the players like to play in. In Chelsea, I could win it in my first season, so it was very good. It was a great experience and I could see how happy the fans were in that moment. Hopefully we can go through and have a great competition to fight for the title. We have to know it`s not going to be easy. This competition is very hard for everyone. From the best to the worst team, you have to do the right things. One silly mistake and then you can be chasing the game. It`s very important to try and win and go through.’

With Victor Wanyama’s suspension following his red card against Norwich last weekend, Romeu is obviously hoping he gets the nod by Ronald Koeman to start the match and if he’s called upon he’s ready.

‘For me, my mentality is always to work hard. If I play or don`t play, I will keep the way I`m training and doing things the same. You have to work hard and do the right things every training session, but that`s the same as before. Any chance is important. For a player we have to take it seriously and do our best in every game. We will see who ends up playing. We are going to try and do our best to go through and show we can do our best to play every game, but the main thing is we have to win.’
