Saga Denies Norwich

Marek Saganowski’s 78th minute header completed Southampton’s comeback last night at Carrow Road.

The Canaries were two goals up at the break thanks to goals from Mark Fortheringham and Wes Hoolahan. But Mark Wotte, in his first game as manager for the Saints made a tactical change at half time and the Saints came out a different side.

Wotte decided to place two up front with Saganowski and David McGoldrick now working together to try and get the south coast side back into the game. Their rewards were paid off when substitute Kayne McGlaggon’s deflected strike found the net and the Saints were on their way to a crucial point.

Just 12 minutes before the end, right back Lloyd James’ inch perfect cross was met powerfully by Polish international Marek Saganowski and the comeback was now complete.

That was Saganowski’s second goal in two games since returning from his loan spell with Aalborg.

Manager Mark Wotte, considering the score at half time has had a fine start as Southampton manager, and the Dutchman will be looking to build on this result with Saturday’s home tie against Swansea.
