Saints slipped to a disappointing home defeat on Monday night, as they were easily brushed aside by promotion chasing Watford.

Fans were hoping the recent unbeaten run could be built on but The Hornets were ahead after only three minutes, after some poor Saints defending. Gavin Mahon scored the early goal.

Darius Henderson chipped in with a brace to give the visitors a 3-0 lead before Peter Madsen scored Saints consolation.

Taking into account the current league positions Watford clearly had the greater motivation to win the game. Saints though really need to start producing some more inspirational performances soon despite there being little to play for.

Its important that we start next season as a settled team and on form. Also the near 20,000 fans that turned up on a freezing Monday night deserve some more entertainment for their entrance fee than that.

Head Coach George Burley realises much hard work is still required to turn around the clubs fortunes:

‘To let in three at home is a big disappointment. It shows there is much work for us to do before we can say we have a decent team here again.’
