The news that clear the air talks had been arranged between the two led us to hope that the back biting would come to an abrupt end.

Sadly this appears to have been false hope. The fact talks had been arranged became general knowledge, with Le Tissier later revealing talks had been scheduled for four weeks’ time.

Southampton have today told Press Association Sport that those discussions are now off.

‘A meeting was organised between Nicola Cortese, the club’s executive chairman, and Matthew Le Tissier in what the club believed was good faith,’ a club spokesman said.

‘Both parties had agreed that it would be a private meeting with no publicity surrounding it, yet within 24 hours this matter was put in the public domain and further negative comments attributed to Mr Le Tissier have appeared this morning.’

We don’t know all of the ins and outs of this story but we do know that Le Tissier made the information known to the general public.

Our former star when hearing the news acted as expected, by having another snide remark to make on Twitter.

Le Tissier told Press Association Sport this afternoon that the meeting’s cancellation ‘doesn’t surprise’ him and wrote on Twitter: ‘Meeting with our wonderful exec chairman been cancelled #surprisesurprise #somethingtohidenicola.’

For me it is a shame that ‘Le God’ has had to go public when it is not in anybodies best interests to break an agreement.
