Charlie Austin could be on the move to the Championship, according to Sky Sports.

They claim he is wanted by West Brom to replace Dwight Gayle, who has returned to Newcastle, after scoring 23 league goals last season.

Baggies boss Slaven Bilic vowed to improve the team when he took the job and will be approaching players he believes could help as they seek promotion back to the top-flight.

However, if goals are what Bilic is after, Austin may not be the best choice if last season’s numbers are anything to go by. The Englishman only managed to score two league goals.

Austin was believed to be joining Sheffield United, according to The Birmingham Mail, but no bid has materialised as yet. The 29-year-old only has one year remaining on his contract at St Mary’s and it is believed Saints are ready to cash in on the striker.

He is valued at £7.2million by Transfermarkt and has also attracted interest from Aston Villa according to The Birmingham Mail.

Sky Sports claim Ralph Hasenhuttl wants to trim his squad and reduce the wage bill, to allow him to acquire other players as he revamps his side. They go on to suggest that Sam Gallagher could also be sold.
