Saints’ fans planning 2nd protest

After over 1,000 Saints’ fans marched towards St Mary’s to protest against the running of Southampton FC prior to the Swansea game, another protest is being arranged, this time for the visit of Preston on February 21st.

On the 31st January, a large number of Saints’ fans met in the town centre, where they started marching towards St Mary’s singing anti-Lowe songs and venting their anger at the current regime.

An overwhelming majority of fans have become increasingly frustrated with Lowe and Wilde, with results on the pitch not helping their cause. With all the cost-cutting measures that have taken place, as well as the failure of the ‘total football’ experiment employed by Lowe, some fans have simply had enough and want to see drastic changes.

With the last protest receiving widespread media coverage from both The Championship on ITV and Sky Sports News, a further protest is being staged in an attempt to increase the pressure on Chairmen Rupert Lowe and Michael Wilde.

As opposed to marching towards the ground prior to kick-off, some fans have come up with an innovative idea that they feel will be more effective.

Fans are being asked to congregate outside the stadium reception before the match gets underway, and once five minutes of the game have been played, they will march AWAY from St Mary’s and into the town centre.

In addition to this, season ticket holders are being asked to take their seats in the stadium, but then get up and walk out after five minutes of play, so they can join up with the protest taking place outside the ground, before marching away from the stadium as one.

If the organisers can get enough people to take part, this is sure to be a very effective protest, although one concern is if Saints score an early goal, people may choose to stay and watch the match instead.
