It’s being reported today that Southampton have a ‘strong interest’ in Porto striker Moussa Marega.
I’ll say up front I don’t believe this rumour on the mill and not just because it comes from the Mirror – it’s just way too convoluted and confused and Southampton have seen their name thrown in as an afterthought in my humble.
The report concerns Danny Drinkwater – previously linked with us as covered previously – and deals with West Ham United’s apparent interest in him. It then bounces to them looking at Porto striker Moussa Marega who scored 23 times last season for his current club.
After you’ve scanned an awfully long way down the piece, it returns to exactly the same sort of text about Drinkwater that we saw when linked and then bounces back to their striker search.
Get to the final line of the report and Marega apparently ‘has strong interest from both Everton and Southampton’ and then they talk about his versatility as a second striker or the option of playing him on the wing.
It also appears to lean on a week old report in the Daily Mail which fails to mention us even in passing.
It’s obviously a quiet day in the world of Southampton as we await tonight’s pre-season friendly against Celta. I’d truly be amazed if we heard his name again in relation to us once the initial round of rehashes are finished with.
