Saints will mark the deaths of Charlie Wayman and Peter Osgood with a minutes applause before the Coventry game on Saturday, instead of the customary silence.

It was after the death of former Manchester United star George Best that we first saw English supporters applauding as a tribute.

It was considered, with the pleasure his skill brought so many fans, that applauding was a more fitting way to show appreciation for him.

With the legendary status that Osgood and Wayman had at the club fans were keen for the tribute to be repeated.

Saints secretary Liz Colen told saintsfc.co.uk:

‘Initially we planned a minute’s silence but then it became clear that the fans wanted applause instead’

‘Out of courtesy, we contacted Peter’s family to make sure they were comfortable with that and we have just received their approval’
