With Southampton facing Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium this weekend and Arsenal going into battle against Liverpool, I’m not quite sure what led to manager Unai Emery discussing the club but it appears he has this week.

The Daily Echo reported yesterday that the former Paris Saint-Germain gaffer was in awe of Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier, and the 46-year-old Spaniard used to watch him regularly on the telebox during his time in his home country.

Obviously, Le Tiss’s goals were a standout during his time with us and his playing career full stop and we’ve all no doubt got memories of our own favourites – even if the details go missing with every passing year – and although it’s strange to her Emery discuss him in such glowing terms, it really shouldn’t be a surprise.

“He’s one player who I would watch when I was watching the Premier League in Spain. He was one player I would watch a lot of movies of. He was very technical, a quality player with the ball and was amazing for the spectacle. My memory of him is that he was a very, very special player.”

One thing is for sure, we could do with a player like him back at the club now to get us ticking over again in the campaign of 2018/19 as he wasn’t just important for his goal return.
