Southampton midfielder Stuart Armstrong looked to have picked up some kind of calf complaint during Scotland’s recent defeat to Portugal.

Cedric Soares and the former Celtic man went head to head in the international clash and although the 26-year-old has only made two starts so far for the club following his summer arrival (they were back in August) he did look set to get 90 minutes until he limped off in the 77th minute of the game.

It was actually his longest run out since the League Cup victory over Brighton seven weeks ago, but whether the calf complaint comes from that remains to be seen.

Details are thin on the ground at this stage, but fans will certainly be hoping it’s not a long-term issue despite manager Mark Hughes seeming to use his sparsely and mainly as a substitute in the Premier League.

With a clear need to turn around our form in front of goal, he showed enough in pre-season and whilst with Celtic to know that he could play a key role for us on a creative front if we can get him firing on all cylinders.
