23-year-old Danish international Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg had the proverbial mare against Leicester City as Southampton fell to defeat last weekend as he picked up a double booking and saw himself sent from the pitch.
Having missed out in midweek as we travelled to the Amex Stadium for EFL Cup victory over Brighton as he served his suspension, manager Mark Hughes brought him back into the fold last weekend and Hojbjerg definitely rewarded that faith as he put in a proper performance to help us to our first Premier League win of the year.
He even got himself on the scoresheet in stoppage time to make it 2-0 to ensure the three points.
Whoscored gave Hojbjerg a rating of 8.53 for his individual showing on the day and after previous criticism Cedric Soares also gave a response with an assist and rating of 8.20. Alex McCarthy celebrated his England call-up with 8.19 and a clean sheet, with Danny Ings and Jannik Vestergaard completing the top five.
Nine players received ratings of above 7 and that demonstrates the performance we put in.
Hojbjerg was worthy of the top rating though and if he can find consistency at that level of performance the lad could really kick on from here now.
