He says he is going to savour the local game atmosphere inside St Mary’s and that the Saints are fully focused on going for the three points against local rivals Bournemouth.

He told the Saints Player, ‘I can’t wait for it, derby days are special days. It will be the first opportunity for myself to experience a derby at Southampton.’

He added, ‘I know Portsmouth are considered the proper derby, but Bournemouth are in our division at the moment. It’s a local team so it’s going to be special and I’m well aware of how much it’s going to mean to our supporters.’

Carrying on Nigel said that he hasd experienced local derbies as a player and as a manager. At Scunthorpe the biggest game for the locals was the one against Hull.

He knows that the players can feel the way the supporters are looking forward to this game and will be ready for the test they face against the team currently in 2nd place in the league.

Nigel said that the players always give 100% and if the supporters see the team playing to their maximum they will push them on as they get behind them.

Nigel also said that with players being excited about this game it is important that though they give their all they must remain focused and keep their discipline.

He knows that the atmosphere will be electric and insisted that though the team wants to win it is important to play the right way and to try and keep the ball moving around between the players with a modicum of speed.

In his rallying call he reminded us of what we want. We have history and we want to win the league he insisted. Stressing that we must take one game at a time and the next game is always important.

He said that we need to get a consistency in our play and once we can do that we will start to rise towards the teams we are chasing.

The more I hear from him the more I like what I hear. Let us give the team the roaring passion that will lift us against the Cherries and give us the points we so desperately need.
