Southampton Football Club has finally been bought by Swiss businessman Markus Liebherr.

The Hampshire club were on the brink of going out of business, but Marcus Liebherr’s bid was finalised with administrator Mark Fry earlier today.

Mark Fry, who has been working for almost 100 days to sell the Saints is delighted that finally the saga is over today: ‘I am absolutely delighted the takeover has been completed.’ He told the Daily Echo.

‘I am not only delighted that it has been completed but also that it has gone to who we feel was the right buyer.’ Fry continued.

‘I would like to thank everyone who has supported us along the way – the fans, staff, players and all the media for all their coverage.’

Southampton will start next season on minus ten in League One, but Liebharr, who is thought to be worth £2.5 billion, revealed to Sky Sports that this is exciting times for the Saints.

‘I believe we have a superb opportunity to rebuild this great club,’ he said.

‘Clearly this will require resources, planning, hard work and patience. We will assemble a strong management team at every level of the club.’ Liebherr continued.

‘We will act rapidly but also plan for the long term, because I am here for the long term.’
