On hearing the news earlier today that we would be hosting the memorial cup as part of our pre-season training in memory of the great Marcus Liebherr, it is understood by some sources that the two opposing teams who where hinted earlier to be a Premiership club and a La Liga club are Everton and Valencia.

Our past meetings between us and Everton at St Mary’s Stadium was a 2:2 draw, and at Goodison Park it was a 1-0 loss to the Saints.

However the season we last played was the 2004/2005 season, and so the two teams have changed along with the time.

This will be an interesting and difficult test for us and I feel excited, as a fan, to see these boys in Blue back at our ground.

Not as interesting however as the prospect of Valencia, which I cannot remember a past meeting between these great teams. This will be a different type of test altogether for the saints.

It would have prepared us at least to play the type of team such as Swansea in the championship, and I know that they have recently set sail for the blessed lands of the Premiership, but you know what I mean!

Overall It should be a great day out and I feel that depending on the prices we might be set for a sell out at St Mary’s.

Now of course we simply have to wait to see whether this rumour is even close to the truth. If it is I am going to be there whatever the cost.

Whoever we see on the day it should be a good day and one which may give us hope for the season to come.
