13 goals in 21 Premier League appearances is bound to get you noticed in this day and age of the game, and for Danny Ings, the Southampton striker has found himself at the centre of some speculation.

TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent admitted live on air that the Saints no. 9 would be the ideal winter signing for Premier League giants Tottenham due to star striker Harry Kane being ruled out with injury until March at the latest as reported by Sky Sports News.

The former Premier League attacker said: “If Spurs were to go and get Danny Ings and he was to go and score five or six goals before Harry Kane gets back, I don’t think automatically Harry Kane walks back in the team,” with Bent later adding: “How could you change the team that is doing well, winning games, pushing up the league to accommodate someone. But for me, that’s the perfect fit and if Daniel Levy were to get Danny Ings, that would be a great signing.”

Has Ings been Southampton's best player this season?

Yes, no question about it

No, others have been more important

Whilst no media outlet is yet to report that Spurs are interested in Ings, the positive review of the Southampton striker from Bent, who spent two seasons with the north London club, could push the Premier League side into making some form of an attempt to sign the Saints talisman, and for Ralph Hasenhuttl, this is something they simply can’t allow to happen.

Ings has been arguably Southampton’s most important player this season, with stats from Transfermarkt showing that the former Liverpool striker’s goals have won the south coast side 11 points in the Premier League this campaign, which has been a defining factor in the Saints climbing out of the relegation zone.

Tottenham will likely search for a new striker this transfer window, but for Southampton, they must try their hardest to ensure that Ings doesn’t end up being that name come to the end of January.
