Rickie Lambert has said the Premiership will know that Southampton aren’t interested in making up the numbers following our performance against Man City.

Speaking to saintsfc Lambert believes clubs will now know not to underestimate the team in the future.

‘I thought we looked ok, we managed to score two goals and took the lead, so we’re proud of the way we played. We know we’ve got a hard start but we’ve come here to do well, not just to survive, and I think we showed just how good we can be.’

Rickie also admits that he was disappointed not to start the game, but he knew he had to be ready if the chance came.

‘I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t disappointed not to start, but there’s no sulking it’s just a case of being ready for when you get your chance and that’s what I’ve done. I was made up to get my first goal.’
