Southampton’s Premier League season continued with a two-nil against Watford at the St Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday.

Shane Long headed Southampton into an early lead from a Matt Targett cross inside 20-minutes with the points, which always looked likely to be the Saints’, secured when Dusan Tadic finished past Heurelho Gomes from eight-yards.

Victory, which could have been greater with Sadio Mane going close more than once on a night he impressed, saw Southampton up to 12th.

These were the other results.

Tuesday 12th January 2016
Aston Villa 1-0 Crystal Palace
Bournemouth 1-3 West Ham
Newcastle 3-3 Man Utd

Wednesday 13th January 2016
Chelsea 2-2 West Brom
Man City 0-0 Everton
Southampton 2-0 Watford
Stoke 3-1 Norwich
Swansea 2-4 Sunderland
Liverpool 3-3 Arsenal
Tottenham 0-1 Leicester

Aston Villa collecting a vital three-points against Crystal Palace, with a one-nil win at Villa Park, could prove to be a ‘season changing’ moment? A six-goal thriller saw Newcastle grab a dramatic equaliser in a three-three draw with Man United at St James’ Park.

The majority of games were played on Wednesday when Sunderland collected a big three-points from this ‘relegation six-pointer’ at the Liberty Stadium whereas at the top end of the table Man City lost ground after a draw with Everton, Leicester won at Spurs one-nil to move joint-top with Arsenal who were involve in another six-goal thriller with a three-all draw at Anfield against Liverpool.
