Southampton have today announced their first summer signing will be midfield playmaker Marcelo Sarmiento who joins on a season long loan deal from Club Atletico Racing de Cordoba. He also made 13 appearances for Argentinos Juniors last season whilst on loan.
The midfielder has been described as a playmaker and will be a welcome addition to a flagging Southampton midfield. The player, who turns 27 next month, passed a medical this morning and he will be unveiled at a press conference at the club this morning. He has Italian dual nationality so will avoid any work permit complications.
The signing of Sarmiento comes as the latest in a long line of transfers from South America. Fans will no doubt be hoping that Sarmiento is a success on the south coast and does not go the same way as fellow South Americans Agustin Delgado and Fredrico Arias who failed to make an impact at St Marys.
