When the January transfer window had closed, instead of bringing in players to strengthen our squad, which many fans had been calling for, we saw many had left on loan with just one player coming in.

Our squad was not strong enough was said frequently. However, with a spate of injuries hurting us we saw fringe players come in and do well.

Players such as Hooiveld, Rodriguez, S Davis, Fox and Boruc have all covered themselves well with positive performances.

Boruc is now first choice goalkeeper. Fonte may find it difficult to break up the CB pairing of Yoshida and Hooiveld. Fox who had been dropped in favour of Luke Shaw has shown that he can cover the left back position.

In midfield we have seen Steven Davis finally take the chance to prove his worth. Jay Rodriguez has also come of age and shown that he has a part to play.

The players selected have all done well and the team has continued to progress which bodes well for the near future. So much so that it is possible we could see a bench made up of :- Keeper, Fonte, Forren, Fox or Richardson, Ward-Prowse, Lallana, Ramirez.

Two months ago who would have suggested such a line-up as a possibility?

  • SFC you are having a laugh. If we were to see a bench like that it would mean that our team is continuing to play very well. Would be good though.

  • Even two months ago I would have scoffed if such had been suggested but our squad has been showing a togetherness beyond our expectation and results have followed.
