Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino has confirmed that Sofiane Boufal could return to contention for this weekend’s clash against Burnley.

The Moroccan international missed the FA Cup victory over West Bromwich Albion last weekend with a minor injury, but he was back in training this week with his colleagues and potentially comes back into Pellegrino’s thoughts for our trip to Turf Moor on Saturday.

Maya Yoshida however is out for at least the next ‘four or five’ weeks according to the boss.

Charlie Austin remains sidelined as he’s not fit to return and we are likely to be without Shane Long and Steven Davis, but the latter two could return to contention for next week’s tie against Stoke City at St Mary’s Stadium.

Speaking to saintsfc Pellegrino admitted it was a juggling act, but ultimately that is always part of a managers’ job and he challenged anybody who got a chance to make an impact in the game to seize that chance as we look to end the year on a better footing.

‘This is part of our job. When you have a squad of 22, 23, 24 players, you need them to be ready when you have something unexpected, like injured players.’
