Saints Stars Invited To Cherries Match

The decision to invite them into the boardroom could be seen as a bit of mischief making with the Saints legends likely to come face-to-face with St Mary`s chairman Nicola Cortese.

Legendary ex-player Le Tissier and former manager McMenemy both received special awards when the club`s 125th anniversary was celebrated at the weekend.

However, neither of the two events – a gala dinner on Saturday and a tribute night at the Mayflower Theatre on Sunday – were recognised by the club`s current hierarchy.

The relationship between a number of popular Saints stalwarts and Nicola Cortese are said to have been strained from his arrival at St Mary`s in August 2009.

Eddie Mitchell first crossed paths with Cortese when the Cherries chairman claimed he had been banned from entering the Saints boardroom for the previous league meeting between the clubs in October.

Could this be his response or has Eddie got the best interests of all parties at heart.

Eddie Mitchell said when talking to the ‘Echo’ that he holds no grudges.

Adding, ‘Everybody from Southampton will be welcome into our boardroom with open arms. We always provide hospitality for club officials and you can`t get a better host than Jeff Mostyn. He is the king of the hosts!’

I can see a very entertaining time ahead and that will not just be the football.
