The less said about this weekend’s trip to Anfield to face Liverpool may be for the better from a Southampton standpoint.

We were pretty easily and comprehensively beaten 3-0 on the day and all the goals came in the opening 45 minutes with the hosts capable of relaxing off in the second period – they did have another goal scrubbed off for offside though.

Saints weren’t that bad, we just weren’t that good and first half some will think the scoreline was slightly unfair. Instead of trying to put that right though, it was more about avoiding further embarrassment and we largely sat back as they took their foot off the gas.

With few positives to take, I’ve not actually seen this so far in 2018/19 I don’t think but WhoScored didn’t feel anyone was deserving of a rating of 7 or above.

Summer signing Jannik Vestergaard was as close as we got with 6.82 for his defensive efforts, but clearly, Oriol Romeu put in a shift at 6.76 as he made four tackles, five interceptions, and two clearances.

It’s all getting a little bit ‘meh’ again though as we continue to struggle and there are few signs of that changing.
