At the Lane today we are certain to see Luke Shaw and possibly James Ward-Prowse in Saints line-up. Both have shown considerable talent and will be among many Saints youngsters being checked over by other clubs.

Gareth Bale has become one of the hottest properties in the English League since leaving Southampton and along with Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have shown that our Academy is capable of producing quality players.

The fact that we have a few youngsters nearing a first team place, along with the likes of Shaw and JWP who have already staked claims, shows that our Academy is still thriving.

It is not beyond the realms of possibility that we will see in the near future, a team with four or five of the players having come through our ranks at the Academy.

Our younger players have seen at first hand the likes of the three aforementioned stars and will have seen that we have a good reputation for bringing those players threw that have the mental strength and the talent required to survive in the world of football.

Today as stated we will face a Spurs outfit that has attacking threats all over the park. We will have to fight hard to stay in the game but it is off the field where our greatest battles may be fought.

Our Academy players are being watched regularly and many are being coveted by some of the bigger clubs. For us to compete with the best we will need to keep our youngsters and I am certain that Saintsfc will fight tooth and nail to hang on to any that are likely to make the grade.

  • As you say we have to fight on the pitch, fairly preferably, and also off the field to hang onto our future stars.

  • I thin the fight on the pitch was there, just the failure to take our chances cost us. Always knew Spurs and Bale especially are capable of that moment of class, just got to stop leaving ourselves open for it.

  • Yes the fight was there and if we can replicate that performance for two more games we should be ok. Though neither Sunderland or Stoke will make it easy for us.
