In an exciting game at Staplewood Saints Under 18’s had to take the lead three times before finally running out deserved winners by 4 goals to 2.

The game began in a frenzy and within three minutes Saints had taken the lead and lost it. First Jake Flannigan fired past Pierluigi Gollini after a good run and cross from Gregory Ariyibi on the right wing.

Then a Jack Barmby shot was pushed away by goalkeeper Chris Jones, but only into the path of Josh Harrop, who slotted into the open net to equalise.

The pace slowed but the game remained open with Saints just edging the play. The second half started slower but again good open football was being played.

Saints had a goal disallowed and United hit the post before on 75 minutes Saints took the lead again to start a frantic finale to the game.

A blocked shot inside the box came back to MCQUEEN who rifled a shot into the empty net for 2-1 on 76 minutes. Five minutes later and James WEIR drilled a fine strike home from the edge of the area to equalise for United.

The match was to take a twist once again when Saints went straight up the other end to score a third. Ryan SEAGER the man on target for his 16th goal of the season, just days after returning from representing England Under-17s at the Algarve tournament.

Saints kept the lead and finally in added time made the game safe with Sam GALLAGHER calmly rounding the United รข??keeper before poking in from an acute angle to make it 4-2.

A good game and the second time Saints had beaten United this season. To read a full coverage of the game click here
