Having been cruelly denied their first success by a last-minute leveller at Wolves on Monday, there was a steely determination about Martin Hunter’s charges at the Rush Green Stadium.

And they got their reward for a patient showing on a difficult surface when the game was settled by a stunning strike from substitute Alberto Seidi with 63 minutes gone.

Though Saints could have taken an early lead with an Aaron Martin header which went just over, it was West Ham who had most of the ball in the first half.

The second half was again mainly Saints defending stoutly but with a few moments of good counter attacking. The goal for Saints came moments after Alberto Seidi had come on as substitute and he scored with powerful shot from the right of the penalty area with 63 minutes gone.

A good win and one which will further enhance the morale of the squad.
