Saints Upset The Media’s Headliners

We all know that the media is all about the teams at the top of the table and us smaller clubs are only there to make up the numbers.

Saturday at St Mary’s Manchester City were totally out fought, and out played by Southampton and what do the media have to say about it?

Man City gift Saints three points. City give United the title. City this City that. City toss away three points. City are poor. Nobody seemed to have watched the same game as us at the ground had seen.

Southampton had three soft looking goals but why were they looking like that? Because the team from the keeper to the strikers out fought City. They hustled and harried them giving them no time.

Saints had played in a similar vein in their last three matches but had been unable to play like it for the full 90 minutes and because of that failed to gain a much needed win.

Against City it was different. Saints were able to keep the pressing game going throughout, and also played some good football when the opportunity arose. Though this was likely made possible by City not fighting as hard.

Where we may have been lucky was in City’s lack of their regular centre back pairing through injury. The simple fact though is that Saints took advantage of that even though three of our main players were missing as well.

Luke Shaw and Jose Fonte at the back and Gaston Ramirez were out through injury. Their replacements though all stepped up to the plate unlike the City replacements.

Steve Davis, Jack Cork and Morgan Schneiderlin were absolutely fantastic as they broke the City machine into little broken parts. City didn’t have the means to escape the stranglehold, and something that the media kindly forgot to mention:

Two valid penalty shouts were turned down when it could be seen clearly that both were genuine calls and should have been given.

Stan Collymore called it when he said that we were superb and fully deserved the win. He also agreed that we should have had a penalty.

Just once it would be nice to see the facts given as they were. Saints outfought a City team that didn’t have enough fight in them.

I would like to add that this is my opinion and has nothing at all to do with the opinions held by the Vital Network.
