Saints won that first ever game 6-0 on Saturday 19th November 1921. The last meeting so far was again at St Mary’s on 11th November in the cup which Saints won 2-1.

Overall Saints hold sway at home having won 19, drawn 6 and lost 6.

This is tempered slightly by the recent track record of this meeting.

Over the last 3 years in league meetings the teams have drawn at Charlton, 1-1,0-0 and this season 1-1. At St Mary’s Charlton have won by the odd goal. Last season they won 3-2 and the season before 1-0.

So Saturday Saints will be looking for a small touch of revenge. Not many teams manage to win three years on the trot at Southampton.

Charlton will be desperate for the win as they are still fighting for automatic promotion. Saints still have a slim chance of getting to the playoffs. Defear for either will hurt so expect a tough game with no quarter given.
