For both these clubs, oh how the tides have turned since their last meeting. I for one would have been intrigued to see the odds, at the time, of the club’s next match up being in the Premier League. Hindsight could have made me a pretty penny!

Taking place at St. Mary’s and dubbed the ‘friendly south coast derby,’ it was Saints who ran out winners in the last meeting. Goals from Barnard, Hammond and Rickie Lambert sealed the points in a 3-1 victory.

Ahead of tomorrow’s clash, both club Chairmen appeared on BBC South Today. Speaking fondly of one another, Ralph Krueger and Jeff Mostyn spoke of shared philosophies and a mutual respect shared between the two clubs.

Jeff Mostyn, when asked if he was envious of the success that Saints have found over recent years he said, ‘No, not at all, it’s not envy. It gives us something to aspire to. They have set a tremendous example to all clubs who are looking to do what they have done. With Eddie Howe in charge we will look to try and replicate this success.’

The pair continued to joke that the losing chairman shall pay for dinner after the match. So, Jeff Mostyn, here’s hoping dinner’s on you!

For the clash Saints will again be without Shane Long who is still recovering from an ankle injury. Jay Rodriguez also with an ankle injury will miss out.

Bournemouth will again be without Wilson who, despite an impressive start to his Premier League career, has picked up a long term injury. Ex Saint’s goalkeeper Boruc is also touch and go in terms of injury recovery but could face his old club tomorrow.

Saints, currently sitting 10th could climb as high as sixth with a win. Although to topple Tottenham’s goal difference a five goal swing and a Spurs defeat would be needed over the week’s remaining fixtures.

Southampton Team News:

Saints Injuries:

Shane Long

Jay Rodriguez

Florin Gardos

Frazer Forster

Player to watch: Sadio Mane

After serving a suspension midweek following a red card at Anfield, Mane will be keen to hit the ground running in his return. His pace and unpredictability could perhaps be too much for the Cherries defence.

Bournemouth Team News:

Bournemouth Injuries

Wilson

Elphick

Mings

Gradel

Player to watch: Andrew Surman

An old favourite of St. Mary’s who was born and raised as a Saint. Having signed from Norwich he is certainly a strength in Bournemouth’s midfield. Could the curse of the old club strike for Saints tomorrow?
