The Saints are ready to face Gary Johnson’s Robins this Saturday at St. Mary’s. Saints are in high spirits following their dramatic 3-2 win away to Preston last weekend, ‘Everyone is happy and full of confidence which is good to see’ Poortvliet said.

Opponents Bristol City have made a steady start to this year`s campaign. The West Country side sit comfortably in 11th place with five other teams on 21 points. Johnson’s men have collected 11 points away from Ashton Gate, one of the best away records in the league.

This week, Southampton manager Jan Poortvliet has publicly stated how their dire home record has to change immediately. Accumulating only six points at home, the Saints have one of the worst home records in the league.

Poortvliet will hope to put another three points on the board against the Robins. Last time at St. Mary’s the Saints beat City 2-0 with late goals from Jason Euell and Stern John.

Vital Quotes:

‘That performance had a little bit of everything, the desire to get the second and third goals, whilst the first goal came from a set-piece.’

Southampton Team News:

The Saints welcome back young star Adam Lallana who was out with an ankle injury. Jason Euell came through training unscathed. Man of the moment, David McGoldrick picked up a hip problem but also came through well in training.

Captain Michael Svensson has been training and is recovering well from his recurring knee injury. However, the Swede is not quite ready for Saturday’s game.

Simon Gillet and Jordan Robertson also join ‘Killer’ Svensson on the absent list with Gillet being out with a knee injury and Robertson still suffering from a virus.

Player to watch: David McGoldrick

With five league goals this season and his late winner at Deepdale, David McGoldrick will be a confident striker; and ready to get his sixth league goal.

Bristol City Team News:

Stern John is not eligible to play against his parent club; having gone on loan to Bristol City until January 1st.

Record signing Nicky Maynard joins Andy Webster on the doubtful list for the game.
