After totally dominating the first half Saints had been unfortunate not to score.

The second half was much more even but still the youngsters were the more adventurous side and could have closed the game if just one of the chances had been taken.

City scored against the run of play in the first half of extra time and the teams turned round with the hosts thinking that they were heading for a glorious win.

Saints equalised though through Ward-Prowse with the last kick of the game and sent the tie into a penalty shoot out.

The hosts ended up winning the shoo out thanks to a couple of great saves from their keeper and Saints had to face the long journey home with the thought of defeat hanging around.

Jason Dodd was sad for the boys and said he was pleased with the way that the team had played but without saying it, must have wished he had not had so many players out injured.

The team we fielded was the youngest we had fielded this season and maybe the inexperience showed at times.

It will be an experience many of them will remember and could help them as they develop.
