Southampton manager Mark Hughes took the first team to the Molineux last weekend to face last season’s Championship title winners Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The game was largely level from a statistics point of view, in terms of possession and we actually created more chances on the day but our Achilles heel is goalscoring and that’s not a surprise for anyone. The hosts took their chances to take all three points and Hughes was left pretty much saying the same things at the full-time whistle.

It’s fair to say a number of fans are already losing faith and patience with Hughes, especially in light of some of his post game choices of words and takes on how games have gone for us, but there are those who point out he’s not exactly helping himself when it comes to sticking with players who just aren’t doing a job out on the pitch.

With pressure mounting some need taking out of the firing line and others given a chance to impress and it’s one thing Hughes calling on people to step up now but he has to give them the chance to.

  • Southamptons squad are well capable of playing in the premier league except they are not playing up to the standard expected. Reason being shocking management last season and MHIs not the man to gel and inspire them after what they had with last year. A new manager needs to be installed so instead of scouting for players the priority ahould be for a competent leader who will being back belief to see out matches and play fluently as we did with poch and Ronald. Too frustrating to watch from 75 mins on cause thats where a manager should be able to lead us over the line instead of making excuses.
