Midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has said that Southampton deserved more against Stoke City yesterday.

Audio – Stoke Loss Reaction

Following on from the two one defeat where Southampton did score the opening goal with Morgan getting it, Schneiderlin echoed many of the thoughts of the manager Ronald Koeman in his own interview with saintsfc because he felt the very least we deserved for our performance was a point on the day.

‘We are very disappointed because we played bad and won the game last week and then this week we played on a good level and lost the game. That is football, we need to take that and move forward because of course when you lose a game in such circumstances you reflect back and you can be disappointed.’

Schneiderlin goes on to say that their first goal was very ‘unlucky’ in his eyes and equally we missed a number of good opportunities that we should’ve done a lot more with, and the main disappointment is that it makes the Top Four finish hopes even more ‘complicated’ now given results elsewhere.

However he promised the team wouldn’t be giving up on the Champions League hopes, and at the very least we would keep fighting for a Europa League run out next season if that’s all we can now achieve.

‘To be honest we will see the positives on Monday but today we are just disappointed to lose the game because we know we were better today. We have to move forward to the next game against a good team. We wanted to give the fans the most prestigious competition but if not we want to give them the Europa League. We want to secure European football for this club, that`s our main target.’

As for his own goal on the day, taking him to five for the season, he admitted it was a training ground move that they had worked on so he was pleased to see that work and pleased to get back on the scoresheet but he’d have been happier had it played a part in getting us the win.

‘My goal personally we worked on that on Friday, with me going to the back post because teams know I come from the edge of the box and they weren`t really aware. It was a great header from José Fonte and I just made sure to put the ball in the back of the net. It was a good start but it`s the first time we have lost from winning a game so we are disappointed.’
